FAQs

Wedding Weekend
  • We’re making it a full celebration weekend! Everyone invited to our wedding is invited to the following events:

    Welcome Party - Friday evening

Wedding Ceremony & Reception - Saturday

    Farewell Brunch - Sunday morning

We may also plan a few casual daytime activities on Friday and Saturday for anyone who wants to join.

  • The most up-to-date schedule, including event times and locations, can be found on the home page of our website. We’ll continue to update it as the weekend approaches.

  • The majority of events will take place outdoors on grass, so please keep this in mind when selecting footwear. Flats, wedges, or block heels are recommended. Mid-September weather can be unpredictable, so please plan to bring layers, including a light sweater or wrap for the evenings.

Welcome Party - Country Club Casual

Women: Sundresses, casual dresses, skirts, or dressy pants with a nice top, paired with sandals or flats.
Men: Collared shirts, polos, or casual button-downs paired with dress pants or chinos, with loafers or similar shoes.

Wedding Ceremony & Reception – Cocktail Attire

Women: Knee length, midi or long dresses

    Men: Suits and ties

    Farewell Brunch - Casual

Easy and comfortable attire is perfect. Sundresses, casual tops, and relaxed weekend wear are recommended.

  • There’s plenty to keep you busy around PAB:

Play a round of golf or hit the pickleball and tennis courts.

Go for a walk or run on the trails - don’t miss Turnip Rock.

Relax on the beach and maybe take a swim in Lake Huron (if it’s warm enough!).

You can also pop into Port Austin, just a 5-minute drive away, for a grocery run, casual restaurants, gift shops, and the Port Austin farmers market on Saturdays (9 am - 1 pm). Don’t miss the Grindstone General Store 5 minutes in the other direction for giant scoops of ice cream.

If you will be spending any time in Detroit we recommend visiting:
    Edsel Ford Mansion
    Piquette Ave Ford plant

    The Henry Ford museum

    Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA)

    Belle Isle

Travel & Accomodations
  • We recommend arriving on Friday in time for the welcome party at 6:00 PM. The wedding will take place on Saturday at 5:00 PM.

The closest major airport is Detroit (DTW), which is about a 2.5-hour drive from PAB. We suggest planning your departure for Sunday afternoon to allow time to enjoy brunch before heading out. Checkout is at 11am if you are staying in a cottage.

  • We highly encourage guests to stay on-site in one of the cottages within the Pointe aux Barques community to fully enjoy the weekend with us.

For those who prefer a hotel-style stay, we have a small room block available at a local bed and breakfast in town. Please note that transportation will not be provided, so you will need to drive between Port Austin and PAB for the wedding events.

  • Please head to the RSVP page and indicate you wish to stay in a cottage.

  • Cottage assignments will be made after all RSVPs have been received. We will confirm with guests that they plan to stay on-site, and cottage numbers will be shared upon arrival.

You are welcome to indicate if there are specific guests you would like to stay with, and we will do our best to accommodate those requests. While we can’t guarantee all preferences, we will be thoughtful in grouping guests.

  • Pointe aux Barques is located in a private cottage community in Michigan’s Thumb. The easiest way to get there is by car. For more information see the Travel page

  • Transportation will not be provided between Pointe aux Barques and Port Austin. Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are very limited in the area, so guests staying off-site should plan to drive themselves for wedding events.

  • Pointe aux Barques is very small and easily walkable. There will also be golf carts available for guests to use throughout the weekend, making it easy to get around and between cottages and wedding events.

Planning & Details
  • We will send out formal invitations closer to the wedding date. If you already know you will or will not attend, you can RSVP now on the rsvp page of our website. If you RSVP now we will follow up at the RSVP deadline to gather individual event and meal selections.

  • Your invitation will indicate who is included in your party.

  • Children are welcome, but only those listed on your invitation are included in the celebration.

  • Yes. We’ll have a food truck at the welcome party on Friday, a seated dinner at the wedding on Saturday, and brunch on Sunday morning. Drinks will also be provided during scheduled events.

Outside of these events, we recommend stopping at a grocery store on your way to Pointe aux Barques to stock your cottage with breakfast items, snacks, and any additional beverages you may want throughout the weekend. Walmart or Meijer in Bad Axe will have better prices than the shops in Port Austin.

  • Yes. Please include any dietary restrictions when you RSVP, and we will do our best to make sure they are accommodated throughout the weekend.

  • In addition to your wedding attire, we recommend bringing items to enjoy all the weekend activities. Bring golf clubs, tennis or pickleball rackets, and proper golf attire including a collared shirt, appropriate shorts or pants, and golf or soft-soled shoes required on the course. Pack a swimsuit and sunscreen for enjoying the water or relaxing at the cottages. Bring a sweater, jacket, and pants for cooler evenings, as temperatures can dip, especially by the lake or around the bonfire. Choose shoes suitable for walking on grass, as the ceremony and many events take place outdoors.

Weather can vary, so check the forecast for Port Austin before you pack to make sure you are prepared for both warm and cooler conditions.
